I asked for my luggage and whilst it was done in a friendly way, it was merely lugged on top of the counter for me to haul off! My room was within the main body of the hotel but there are lots of rooms in adjacent buildings that sit around a central pool and garden which looked lovely. When the time to check in came around the whole process happened fairly smoothly. This hotel was, in its heyday, a place where celebrities stayed and I am sure that with the right ownership & management someone who can give it a cash injection, could return this Hotel to its former beauty whilst modernizing it sufficiently to fulfill guest expectations. The hotel has a 1950's/60's feel (which was an enticing thing for me when scouring the internet) but closer scrutiny reveals that the place is in real need of some maintenance and upgrades. The front desk agent was pleasant and they graciously took my luggage so I could go have lunch and wander about whilst waiting to check in. The location could not be better too - close to all the attractions, Runyon Canyon and so forth. I arrived early from NYC and had booked here due to my conference Hotel being full. Checking out was probably the most pleasant event where I actually received a thank you. I'm thinking this review might even bring a smile to their face especially the receptionist upon check in. I think I have written one other but I would highly advise against a stay at this hotel if not for just the reason as a feel like they could give a "flying fig" about hospitality or accommodation. I am not in the habit of writing poor reviews. No fruit or juices and one pot of coffee that presumably the guests needed to maintain. Breakfast in the morning consisted of muffins from Costco still in their Costco box. LA can get quite hot so if you like airflow while you sleep, bring your own or better yet, find any other hotel that can accommodate that simple need. We did notice a former guests dirty underwear in one of the closets that had been left for the next guest. No such amenities as bottled water although we did have a full kitchen. There were no linens for the pull out couch, 3 towels, but I will say plenty of pillows. Two 1" bars of soap, 2 tiny shampoo-conditioner combo's for what could be up to 8 guests. After we located the crazy driveway to park our car in the underground garage, and then our room located at the back end of the property and several stair cases (beware if you have any ADEA issues), we found our room. His mundane and apathetic attitude continued as I checked in pointing to the direction of my room, a two bedroom with a pull out couch. He was not helping another guest on the phone, just engrossed in some meaningless task below the counter that he could not help a guest trying to check in. Upon check in, the clerk was too busy to look up for a good 3-4 mins. I selected this hotel based on location it was nearly next door to the Magic Castle where we planned on dining to celebrate our daughters recent graduation.
